We were called in to reduce the lodge’s reliance on noisy and dated diesel gensets, thus creating a more sustainable and tranquil environment for the guests and wildlife on this tropical island.
The lodge which is in the Western Indian Ocean, now only uses the diesel gensets for 1 800 hours of the year. Previously they ran for a total of 8 760 hours!!!
The equipment required to construct the project needed to be brought in by ship or air due to the remoteness of the island. Since appropriate transport to and from the island was sporadic, the SPS team needed to carefully and systematically plan the project in advance to ensure a smooth project roll out.
P.S. Did you know that 70% of eco-travelers pick their accommodation based on solar over any other sustainable practices implemented?
